Charles Miller reports on just how easy it can be to track down someone's location/identity from the slimmest set of clues. The WaPo ran an anonymous interview with a hacker who didn't want to be identified, but allowed a small photo of part of his face to run with the story.
That's what got this kid (mostly) found. As it happens, you can get a lot of information on the kind of camera used to take a picture from the EXIF format. A little hunting with that will get you the location where said camera was used. Slapped together with other information this guy let slip in the interview, he's probably already been identified by people in his community.
