I'm parsing a bunch of XML files (317 of them) and was finding that it was spending a lot of time doing something. Lot of it in fetching the same DTD over the network over and over again. Georg Heeg recommended loading the GHSpeedupXMLParsing goodie. Much thanks to Georg for this. My original full parse took 378 seconds. Now it runs in 109. Pretty impressive speedup. I suppose this as good a time as any to mention that I'll be speaking at StS because the tutorial will be on this very subject: "how to make things go faster in Smalltalk." It's amazing how much speed you can leverage with just a simple technique or two.
