Excellent writeup from Reginald Braithwaite puts the static vs. dynamic typing argument in historical perspective. Key thought: Dynamic languages of today don't suffer the same catastrophic problems that C/C++ did because of unsafe casting practices, so the typing issue is pretty much moot.

Have you actually worked on a project where casting errors caused the failure of the project? I mean the product failed in the marketplace, or you spent so much time trying to find and squash critical bugs that the project was cancelled?
