Without really thinking twice about it, I installed the 10.3.5 update on my PowerBook last night, went to eat dinner, and came back to get some work done.But my password didn't work. It didn't work the next time I typed it. And it didn't work and of the times I typed it s-l-o-w-l-y and carefully.Running in single-user mode, it turned out that the DirectoryService was corrupted somehow, so I installed a fresh copy of the OS, keeping the previous system. Just for fun, I tried the update again, and… I can log in. Except now Finder crashes repeatedly every 10 seconds.Other similar experiences (2003-12-21) are why I remind myself to always back-up before installing any updates from Apple, but then I get optimistic and, inevitably it appears, burned.I wonder if I can download Yellow Dog Linux and run it on my expensive ThinkPad…
