This one is a news in India. Kudos to their efforts.

What may not be a surprising news is the fact that putting an OS on the CD and make it run without hard drive is no new thing especially for Sun.

Sun Microsystems in the past (around 2 years back) sent me the preview version of its Java Desktop System that ran from my CD drive without requiring any installation/setup. It detected all (almost) my hardware and the GUI too was pretty. You can read my first experience with it here.

Now, what is more important in the news is the fact that there is a boost to the OSS and Open Solaris in particular. This also motivates the common Indian developer whose participation in open source projects is relatively lower.
