It's the end of the week, so it must be time to have a look at my logs. First up is the weekly count of BottomFeeder downloads by platform. Downloads came in at a rate of 328 per day, which is holding about the same as last week. Here's the breakdown:
Platform | BottomFeeder Downloads |
Windows | 625 |
HPUX | 355 |
Mac 8/9 | 309 |
Sources | 254 |
Update | 204 |
Linux x86 | 178 |
Mac X | 146 |
CE ARM | 103 |
Solaris | 42 |
Windows98/ME | 34 |
Linux Sparc | 22 |
AIX | 13 |
Linux PPC | 6 |
CE x86 | 4 |
SGI | 3 |
Source Script | 2 |
Requests for sources are going up - maybe I should see if anyone wants to do some real work on Bf :) Next, a look at the html accesses to the blog pages, by tool:
Tool | Percentage of Accesses |
Mozilla | 52.9% |
Internet Explorer | 31.4% |
Other | 9.3% |
Google Bot | 3.1% |
MSN Bot | 1.3% |
BottomFeeder | 1% |
Java | 1% |
Mozilla browsers continue to dominate here, which is why tech companies (in particular) can't just assume that "everyone" uses IE. If you are trying to reach developers, a disproportionate share of that audience will be using Firefox (etc). A final piece of interest from that log run - the unique IP addresses that hit the html blog pages last week numbered just over 6100. That's not an exact count of unique readers (there are proxy servers to consider), but it's a floor on the number. Last up - a look at the RSS accesses.
Tool | Percentage of Accesses |
Mozilla | 20% |
BottomFeeder | 18% |
Net News Wire | 12.5% |
Other | 8.5% |
BlogSearch | 4.4% |
BlogLines | 3.5% |
NewsGator | 3.3% |
Internet Explorer | 3.2% |
SharpReader | 3.2% |
Safari RSS | 3.2% |
Lilina | 2.1% |
Java | 2.1% |
MSN Bot | 2% |
Planet Smalltalk | 1.9% |
Magpie | 1.9% |
Feed Demon | 1.7% |
Feed Reader | 1.7% |
Feed Tagger | 1.4% |
RSS Bandit | 1.2% |
Google Bot | 1.2% |
Liferea | 1% |
JetBrains | 1% |
Jakarta | 1% |
Still nothing that resembles consolidation happening here. The most commonly used RSS tool against the site (probably Sage in Mozilla) has only a 20% share.
