One of the things that I don't quite understand is the flow of spam. Here's what I mean by that. I list referers at the bottom of this blog. I'll go weeks with only a few new things to filter out every day or two, and then suddenly, there's a huge influx of bogus links, all from the same place. I guess this means that some spammer somewhere is updating their scripts with a new set of crap to send, but it sure looks weird on this end - it's almost like watching the tide go in and out.

I see the same things with wiki spam. Have a look at the "Recent Changes" page on the UIUC Wiki - there was a flood tide of spam updates over the last two days. You can't see further back than the 25th there, but there hadn't been that kind of flood in awhile - then all of a sudden, boom.

The comment spam attempts on the blogs here seem to be more regular - I get the same failed attempts every day - a set of links for poker sites, mostly. I suppose a chart of these attempts would look interesting :)
