Well, it's been two weeks now and, for the most part, I'm enjoying the new Mac tower. However, there are some things that definitely annoy me.
* As a development platform OS X has proved to be quirky. In addition to the gcc bug (?) I mentioned earlier, I sometimes get unexpected results, especially with sysctl(). In one case it fails when the man page pretty clearly indicates that it should work. In another case it succeeds, but returns bogus information. You can run "sysctl kern.clockrate" to see what I mean. Those are hard coded values. Still, it's been nice to get OS X support working for the various sysutils packages.
* The mouse. I tried. I really did. But I could NOT deal with that mouse any more. I cannot undo 15 years of habit and deal with the one-button push-down-to-click paradigm. It wasn't just a right-click issue, though. The other problem is that the default mouse is just too small for my hand. So, I plugged in my favorite Logitech mouse instead - works like a charm.
* Audio. Sometimes I like to listen to my music on headphones. At other times I like to listen via the speaker. With OS X I have to *manually* set the audio output device if I want to switch. I miss the ability to just plugin the headset and have it *just work*.
* App handling. I miss the taskbar, and I can't say I agree with the Mac approach to app management. The fact that third party apps like Quicksilver are so popular is pretty telling if you ask me.
I'm sure the Mac crowd will now show up to tell me the error of my ways. :)
