If you've ever taken a look at mkmf.rb, and you survived to tell the tale, you know it's a mess. It's ugly. It's definitely NOT Rubyesque. Few dare venture into its internals. Those who have were never seen from again. That, or they dribble a lot more now.

One brave soul, Vincent Fourmond, has undertaken the brave task of rewriting mkmf. You can find an initial version here.

Wish him well, fellow Ruby programmers, and help him by downloading and playing with this new, comprehensible version.
