I had a great time at RubyConf 2005! It rocked! I got to talk to everyone on "the list", and then some. Even Lyle. ;)
Many good things happened. Most of the talks were pretty good, and there were a wide variety of topics. However, the best things happend during the "hallway sessions". First, a bunch of us got together to hash out ideas for a test/spec for Ruby, which shall continue. Ruby is woefully undertested, and this needs resolving ASAP. Second, I think I'll be able to get Ryan Davis' RubyInline working on Windows by the end of the week, if not sooner. Third, Evan Webb and I worked out sane keyword arguments for Ruby/Sydney. Or rather, I worked out the API and rules, and he worked out the code to make it work. For more detail on this, see my next post.
All in all, totally awesome!
My only regrets are that I didn't get in on the Behavior Driven Design stuff (which I want to learn more about), and that I started to feel ill during Jim's continuations talk, and had to bow out. Perhaps trying to understand continuations is what made me feel ill. ;)
There's some debate about how the conference should be organized next year, vis-a-vis Rails. DHH has tossed around the idea of a separate Rails conference. I think it would be a shame to split up, and would prefer either a dual track next year, or an extra "rails day" added to the conference. Oh, and I would like it in Denver. :)
