Dave implemented the aforementioned fixes for Roller. That, in addition to upgrading to OSCache, appears to have improved Roller's performance somewhat. The jury is still out on whether a.) this is good enough and b.) there isn't even more performance enhancements which can be made. Dave has a legitimate concearn that perhaps there is only so much load that a single instance of Tomcat with a single MySql database can take but at this point there is really no other options.

As always if you are interested in looking through the Roller code and seeing if you can spot ways to enhance the performance please join the Roller mailing list and contribute.
