OKay, I am a glutton for punishment. I am about ot open the debate on Java, J2EE, J2SE, and J2ME compatibility testing again. Lets examine the similarities between development shops and computer stores for example.

In both cases margins a very tight with no extra room for massive fees in compatibility licensing. Side Note: The growth of Java was frist fueled not only by being downloadable from internet but the basence of high barriers such as the cost of compatibility testing as a market strategy cost.

We have this big company, SUN, that has far more marketing resources that we could ever acquire. Seems like a perfect example of where to apply co-op advertising compatibility licensing. Remember we also already have 3rd party testing houses. How woud it work?

Sun decides on a precentage of compatibility licensing testing costs that they will pay per app, app server, per framework, and etc. The dev company would be responsible for the balance. Now there is of course the revenue aspect.

The accouting treatment of cop-op advertising does nto decrease revenue in this case, a very important point for SUN. So how about SUN, can we enter the modern marketing age today?
