So I'm testing the UMTS connection by connecting my computer to my Moto A845 and I'm amazed at the speed. With chat being the only thing running, I just got these results back from DSL Reports:

2004-07-21 02:56:18 EST: 256 / 56
Your download speed : 263013 bps, or 256 kbps.
A 32.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 57609 bps, or 56 kbps.

Yeah. Baby!

I mean, that's amazing stuff. I signed up for the Real rTV service on iMode and even though I've seen various forms of video on phones before (from MobiTV to video on my 6600), the thing about this time that makes it so different is how *fast* the clips start playing. Seriously: Click. 1... 2... 3... 4... Video starts. It's that fast. The clips are not - sadly - streaming Real video as the phone doesn't support it. I was hoping to listen to Marketplace via UMTS on my way home at night, but sadly that's not to be. But still it's damn cool.

The most amazing thing though, is I can imagine that right now, at midnight here in San Francisco, I'm pretty much using UMTS all alone. The AT&T Wireless store said I was the first person to buy a phone there today, I may have been the last. :-) Even there were a few hundred in all of the Bay Area, they're probably not awake now.

UMTS All To Myself. Think about it. There will definitely be a time when I look back at this moment and shake my head.

I'm *so, so, so* tempted to buy another Moto tomorrow, despite it's lack of expandability and bulk. Why? Because you can make *video calls!!!* I can't wait to try it. Imagine how cool it would be to call Ana during the day while she's at the park with Alex, and be able to see what's going on? It's like Dick Tracey, but here! Today! So fucking cool. Hey - if you have this Moto, drop me an email with your phone number and a good time to play and I'll video call you tomorrow. :-)

I've been waiting for *so* long to play with this sort of thing. It's so great that it's finally here. In the U.S.! On my carrier! In my hand!

Happy, happy, joy, joy!
