Ever wonder why IBM was not at JavaOne this year? Well lets examine all the Java Innovations that are coming out of IBM that SUN is reluctant to mention.

As you know with the advent of 64 bit OS systems the heap size in JVMs is increasign on both the desktop and server side. Thus, times to go through the heap and compact get bigger and bigger and thus bring the pause times to 40 secodns or more which is unacceptable for real time applications or enterprise systems.

This article at IBM, Mash that Trash, describes an incremental compaction of heap approach used with IBM's 1.4 JDK.
