Since there are some VC like people swarming around it be nice to have a guide in how to find the next Web 2. and or Mobile 2.0 WOZ like developer and or builder. This is based on experience in building both thing sin the physical world and the software world.

Look for the one that does not fit. By not fit I do not mean a person that is hard to be with or work with but someone who when given a choice to fit into the corporate world will do so but if given a choice would rather not do so if given that choice. They want to build a company just as much as building the software product.

Look for those who have high intelligence in thinking analytically. It may be that they attempted 9 concurrent majors and concurrent under graduate and graduate course work in science such as I have. Remember that what sites like Techmeme.com report on has a lead time of about 18 to 36 months to show upon that and thus one needs to look 18 to 36 months ahead to come up with a new set of innovations. Asking a developer to clone Joost or any other site will be effective in any sense of the word.

You are building approximately 90% of the start up assets with that WOZ like developer. Miss treatment devalues that asset whereas making sure the developer has what he or she wants adds great value to that asset. That means that the non developer founders face the reality of the need to provide seed capital via 2nd mortgages or home equity loans to build the prototype.

Innovative Web 2.0 or Mobile 2.0 vision is not an East or West coast USA exclusive club. Geographical location as well as job history, credit history, and etc has very little to do with predicting a success or failure in pushing out a new innovative start up.

I think what maybe hard about this search for a WOZ among Angel Investors is that there is no magic pill that we can give an Angel Investor to magically tell which people are the next WOZ like developers.
