It must be weeks ago that the VMware guys announced that VMware for Mac is coming and that everybody interessted can subcribe to the beta program, so that when its out, you can instantly try it.
I previously blogged about the complete product management desaster of VMware for not producing a Mac variant of their emulation product, despite of the obvious market gains by Apple in the future because of the Intel transition. Now i dont know whats more worse. Ignoring a big market or announcing something that seems months away. I can imagine the disucssions inside VMware, here is what i think:
CEO: why the hell dont we have a Mac version? ProductManager: we didnt thought that the Parallels guys will deliver so fast. CEO:How long are they on the market? ProductManager: A few months already. CEO: Goddam, it seems we are really stupid. What can we do? ProductManager: We could announce a beta program. CEO: But is there something ready to ship? ProductManager: No, but who cares. Its purpose is to stop people buying parallels. CEO: Cool. This already worked for other companies too. You are smart. Go ahead. ProductManager: Thanks.
