Eric Roch in one of his blog entries "Design Patterns Gone Bad" (see title of this post) has made a very good point saying:
"Design patterns are a great architectural tool, but you still must understand the implications of using the pattern for a given solution and the technology involved. Always ask yourself is there a better, simpler solution."

I strongly agree with his views.
"Design patters are not recipes but spices, use the ones that are required and ONLY WHERE it is required."
