Perhaps there is no one more frustrated about the world around her than the hardened Smalltalk advocate. Here you have what she believes to be a language that is superior in many ways to Java, and yet the dotcom boom passed it by and left nary a whisper behind, while Java went on to become the self-proclaimed darling platform for ages.

Open the anxiety closet of any hardened Smalltalk programmer and there you'll find Duke dancing maniacally amongst the dirty linens and smelly underwear.

• To a hardened Smalltalk advocate, there are no "Java Programmers", there are "Java Hordes".
  
  
• To a hardened Smalltalk advocate, Java programmers are always less productive than Smalltalk developers, and God help anyone who points out that productivity is more a function of developer skills, existing toolsets, and other subjective factors than the language itself.
  
  
• To a hardened Smalltalk advocate, all other languages (and especially Java) are just now catching up to the features already inherent in SmallTalk.

Smalltalkers are a very frustrated lot. They haven't yet learned to love the Borg.
