Reading this BusinessStandard article on the RSS Mess and Dave Winer's personality problems underlies why the RSS is so broken when it comes to simple changes to get full namespace implementation and other fixes. Do not get me wrong Dave Winer did a ot of work to bring RSS beyond the 0.91 Netscape beginning; however his personality issues get in the way of civil professional working relationships with most developers and companies.

Why is RSS important to Semantic Web and why is imporving RSS mess with a new RSS like format good? Currently the only consumed format that effectively uses RDF right now is different forms of RSS formats and feeds. Until we get easy tools to create RDF from the non computer geek perspective or to consume other RDF formats in different ways, RSS is the one that gets the common end comsuers attention and use.

By redoing and fixing the RSS problems such as namespace support we allow a RSS/RDF like format to be freed for new applicaiotns to be built and developed innovatively without DW's personality issues getting in the way. I for one welcome a open like RSS/RDF format whatever Sam Ruby and his group end up calling it as long as it gets to be at IETF or w3c and an open standard.
