Our goal was to write this article for a general audience with such people as project managers or non technical managers in mind. A lot of times, as it has been our experience, web-based application performance issues require collaboration of various groups of different disciplines who are not all developers.

The objective of the paper however, was to provide a guideline for the folks who are trying to resolve a performance problem for the first time and not to promote any specific product or services because there are lots of products out there. You are right on the money! The first time I dealt with a performance problem I had no idea how to approach the problem and was very disorganized in resolving it. I would try different things and then once it didn't work I would think ok what is next. That is why it took us a long time to resolve the problem. However, Once you have plan in place you get a clear picture of what you have to deal with in terms of the issues at hand. In addition, you portray an image of "I-know-what-I-am-doing" to other (business) units who are watching your team resolve the problem.
