About Artima
Artima helps programming teams adopt new technology and practices—and today that means using AI effectively in software development. We’ve been helping teams learn, build, and ship for over fifteen years:
- In 2008, Artima published the first book on Scala, Programming in Scala, co-authored by the language's designer, Martin Odersky.
- In 2010, Artima held the first public Scala training course, in San Francisco, California, and has been training development teams ever since.
- Artima creates ScalaTest, one of the most widely used testing libraries in the open source ecosystem.
- Artima's president, Bill Venners, is the creator of ScalaTest, a co-author of Programming in Scala, and served as the first community representative on the Scala Center Advisory Board from 2016 to 2022.
That same focus—helping teams write software that is correct, maintainable, and reliable—now drives our work on AI-assisted development. We help teams combine modern AI tools with strong engineering practices to get the most from both.
Artima is comprised of a small distributed team located all over the world. We run like a start-up but sometimes mirror a family.
