Jini across firewalls

I wanted make services available across firewalls.
I did have tunnel services across different subnets for the lookup services to communicate with one another making the lookup servers as public. this might solve the problem of connecting different subnets but as client download the reference to the object and communicates directly to service provider. Firewall prevents the access between them.Please let me know if anyone has solved the problem of enabling jii services across firewalls
