Interfacing devices

m a newbie here and heard about interfacing devices like TOASTER/ home
appliances
to JINI. I know that a PROXY would be needed for these devices.
I wanted to know how one would physically connect a PC to these devices.
It would be nice if anyone could tell me how these things could be done
