what if superclass does not define 'finalize()'

Please refer to the last point in the conclusion section of this
article.
I am reproducing it here:
"Unless you are writing the finalizer for class Object,
always invoke super.finalize() at the end of your finalizers."

What about those objects which define a 'finalize()' method
but their super class does not define one. Or is it necessary for
both classes to define their 'finalize()'methods for finalisation
to work properly(?).
