date formatting

The Date formatter does not give me the date in the format I require

It returns :

Friday, September 8, 2000
September 8, 2000
08-Sep-00
9/8/00

the format I require is
9/8/2000 or 8 Sept 2000

I believe that you can define your own dates using the
SimpleDateFormatter class.

Any help would be appreciated !!
