What is meant by "Synchronized by default",

Hi ,

As per JLS, 'Hashtable' and 'Vector' are
synchronized by default.
I am curious to know what this really means ?
(Does this mean all access to these objects are
synchronized automatically and no explicit synchronized
statment is required?)
