Catch Session Expires

Does anyone know how to save the session data before it times out? I tried to overwrite the valueUnbound(HttpSessionBindingEvent event) method of HttpSessionBindingListener, but it seems that only after the session has been invalidated and all the session has been lost will this method be called.
Any help is appreciated.
