How to extract text from whole path

Hi Sir,
I have a problem.Sir I have a string
1) c:/java/sound/abc.gif
2) c:/java/lums/docm/maham.tif

Sir I only want the last words , such as from

1)"abc.gif" i want only this text from whole path

and from
2) maham.tif

how can i get them
can u plz provide or give me a code that can do such things.
