Java and magnetic tape I/O

I have a complex archive/distribution system running on
solaris that I need to modernize.
I can't seem to find any insite into how java deals with
multiple files on a single tape. I need to be able to
skip around within a file on tape as well as skip past
multiple files on a tape (Exabyte & DAT).

Essentially I need the equivelent capability of Solaris
mt fsf, mt fsr, mt bsr.... type commands.
