I'm also trying to make it happen. Doesn't work, not even in Netscape 6. One of the things I've tried was something like this:

document.myApplet.setSize(w,h);

This did call setSize on my applet and no error message or exceptions were generated, but still, the applet doesn't resize. Arghh!!!
