"BEA Systems, Inc., the company that was born in a Tuxedo and raised on a cup of Java, is now looking to remake itself with Web services. The San Jose firm is finding that the market for Java application servers, which it has dominated for several years, is becoming too narrow and commoditized a niche for sustained growth.

Hence, BEA is turning to Web services, and WebLogic Workshop is the first step in this quest. It's an unusual product for BEA in that not only does it focus on Web services, it's also a development tool. Previously, BEA counted primarily on third parties to create development tools for its platform, WebLogic," says Andrew Binstock in this SDTimes article:
