Hi, I recently purchased the 'Programming in Scala' book in hardcopy. This isn't a comment on the contents of the book, which I find excellent, but the quality of the hardcopy itself.
I've had the book about a week now, and the spine is coming apart from the book. I'm only art chapter 6, so haven't gotten far into the book yet, but I tend not to fold the spine if I can help it.
I cannot compare the book I got to another copy, as it was the only copy in the bookstore I purchased it from, and I don't want to return the book, as I still want to read it.
Is this normal for Artima books, or was I just unlucky?
That's very concerning. I haven't heard of such a problem before. When we print these we pay extra to get a higher quality "lay flat" binding on these books. We'll be happy to send you another copy, but would also not mind if we could get the problem copy back to we can see what's going on with it. Also, could you let me know what version number it says at the top of the copyright page? It will say "First Edition, Version N" for some value of N. That will tell me what printing it came from. If you want to email me instead of post here, you can email bill at artima.com.
Hi Bill. The book version is 7. Can we arrange to get a new copy out to me please? I like the book itself and plan to have it as a reference copy for future use, so need a good copy. Thanks. I'll email you with my details later.
