Could you please avoid using images for monospaced text (e.g. code snippet)? The image (i.e. code) does not get bigger at all when I increase the text size.

Here's the screenshot that shows the problem:

That looks pretty ugly. What device are you using? It doesn't look like a Kindle.

The trouble is simply that mobi doesn't have something like html's pre sections. It seems a very brain dead thing but that's the situation. We really thrashed about to try and figure out how to display code in mobi, and the least worst option was the image.

But let me know what device you're showing there. On the Kindle at least we found that it looked acceptable.

The screenshot is from Amazon Kindle for Mac, but I can reproduce the similar result with other readers such as the one from Calibre.

The mobi files from Oreilly seems to use monospaced font instead of images. I also found that converting my epub books with pre blocks are converted properly to mobi format with Calibre. That probably means there is a known way to put code block into mobi without using images.

Actually the class names that appear in the middle of the paragraphs in the current mobi file are not images but monospaced text, so the answer might already be there?

See java.math.BigInteger in the screenshot for example.

Hi,

are there any updates about the kindle format?
When I check the store, there's no indication of a mobi format.

The Kindle version is available. If you buy the PDF eBook, you'll get the option to also download a Kindle version for no additional cost. Basically if you buy the eBook you get either or both PDF and Kindle forms, whatever you want. I think we need to make this more obvious on the sales page.

Should be on sale on Amazon quite soon, this week or next at the latest, barring any unforeseen problems.

Cool.
I will buy it very soon.

And thanks for updating the book page.
Unless I missed it, I don't think it mentioned anything about the kindle format prior to posting my question.
