Andrew Eddie, one of the core developers of Mambo, has put together some great documentation on patTemplate 3.0.0 which is available on the documentation wiki of Mambo.
It starts with a short introduction to templating systems and the model view controller patterm and then shows you how to extend patTemplate. Finally there are two pages on using patTemplate in Mambo.
If you are using patTemplate, I recommend reading this, as it will provide a lot of information that you will not find anywhere else. If you are not using patTemplate, you should definitely start using it.
It is great to see, how fast patTemplate has been accepted by projects like Mambo, which is one of the leading open source content management systems, although there has not been a stable release yet.
