I am trying to update from 3.0 to 3.1.1
I downloaded and extracted and have everything sitting in a folder, but it will not start.
I have navigated to the "Python 3.1.1 folder, and using the terminal, typed in "Python".

Python starts up but the version is:

"Python 2.6.2 (release26-maint, Apr 19 2009, 01:58:18)
[GCC 4.3.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>>"

I am doing something wrong but damned if I know what.

If your $PATH doesn't include "pwd", you should use this command under py3k directory:
$ ./python
