One effect that I absolutely love on the Mac is that menus and tool tips are slightly transparent to the window behind them. This is possible under Windows too, so long as you're in Windows2000 or newer.

John Brant followed by Steve Kelly added the Transparency API to the win32 support in VisualWorks some time ago - I finally got around to trying it out and realised that with one method override I could make all the menus and tooltips be slightly transparent. So I did!

While I was at it, I made sure it was safe to have the code loaded in other operating systems. I published my results to public store.

Boy does it look good! Yum.
