More or less by accident, I just came across one of Jim Bullock's more trenchant observations on development methodologies, buried fairly deep inside a fairly old Shape thread:

A bad, naive instance of the other guy's way of doing things always looks worse than a refined, thoughtful instance of your way of doing things.

Obviously something I wish were taken into account a lot more in discussions of Extreme Programming, et al - more importantly, something I'd like to think I can always keep in mind when writing about same.
