On Slashdot it is asked what kind of abused hardware stories you have. Instead of posting there and being drowned out by trolls, I thought I'd post here and be drowned out by being mostly anonymous :)
I've got two primary stories for you. The first one was my Pentium 150. I overclocked this baby to 200mhz. That's a pretty big jump. The machine worked happily for a year, then I noticed I was unable to clock it back to 150mhz. Uh oh. Another year later, suddenly I couldn't use Windows any more - I *had* to use Linux. Linux was the only OS that could handle a faulty CPU. Another half a year later it died. I opened up my machine to take a look and discovered that half the CPU had melted!
The second story is my keyboard. I'm a grumpy old man when it comes to keyboards. I blogged about trying out a new keyboard earlier. That keyboard didn't survive my abuse. I still have the first keyboard I ever bought. It's a honeywell - back then (I'm talking 386/486 days, when 486dx4/100 was damn fast) honeywell was a really good brand. I still have the keyboard and it's my primary keyboard. It's got its own second skin and the space key has been repaired with the tip of a the ink part of a biro!. But I won't give it up until it gives up on me - why? Because it has the perfect keyboard layout. Classic PC style, no windows keys, no right click menus keys, nadda. Pure 108 goodness.
