This has been my first chance to get on the internet. Wifi is great - if you can find it :). I have lots of little observations I can throw out. But first.. to answer Socinian's question of whether I'll be in LA: I was for about an hour when I changed flights to Seattle. I'll be in LA a lot longer on the way back. If you wanted to meet up for something, lets organise it soon.
Okay, the flight over was long.. very long. From start to hitting a bed it was 30 hours. We almost had a disaster at Seattle airport - Rowan's luggage didn't come in. It was on the next flight. That delayed our Seattle departure by three hours. So I was driving on the right hand side of the road for the first time in a car with the steering on the left hand side of the road with strange road rules (flashing orange and red lights!) - at night, trying to find a place to stop. We had made our mind up to head south and we ended up in Tacoma. Some how we managed to find a place to stay there. It was okay but not brilliant.
In Australia every power outlet has a switch to turn it off and on - in America that just ain't so. But then again, the voltage is half as high. And the lamp switches everywhere are quite odd.. they're a turning thingy - sort of like a gas lamp. Is that metaphor-to-modern-object in action? If so, lets not follow that theory any more. A simple switch works just as well guys and gals :)
We're going to get in to Seattle on either Saturday night or Sunday night and we'll be at the Crowne. Hopefully there will be some nice internet access there - but from what Alan says, there may not be.. oh well.
Tacoma's point defiance is really beautiful. There's a nice 5 mile drive around through the forest there with plenty of picky stops. People were jogging, riding, school kids were touring. We walked down to the stone beach and I wrote a bit of a diary. Hotdogs here are salty.
Oh yeah, for the record, bigger is not better. Some of the cars here are huge and every ad I've seen on TV boasts the fact that their car is now -even bigger-. You're nuts. If the roads are built for big cars, get a smaller car so you can zip in and out faster. Nice sports car - trust me on this.
