Just today I read a news story saying that the main actor of Alias has done an add for the CIA urging innovating Americans to join up. This is interesting because one of the requirements for joining the CIA is integrity. An intelligence agency certainly needs a lot of that .. and the CIA doesn't have a great history thus far :)
What I found particularly interesting on the CIA website was their world factbook, which has very up to date information on most countries around the world.
Let's just put that in to perspective - this is the intelligence they're giving away. I've never seen such an incredible summation of Australia before, certainly not on an Australian government website.
So imagine the kind of intelligence resources they have that they don't share - let alone with their allies. Fascinating stuff. I discovered that Tasmania produces Opiate products which I'd never heard about before.
America's right-to-public-knowledge acts have had some other interesting consequences, such as declassified documents ending up on the internet describing various countries atomic capabilities, chemical weaponry capabilities, germ warfare capabilities, etc..
I'm not going to link to those sources because then a white van will pull up in front of my house :) Now please excuse me while I go make a double layered tinfoil hat with a lightning rod on top.
