Visibility based Report Framework
presentation
Bob Nemec: Northwater Objects
Monday 9:15:00 am to 10:00:00 am

Abstract: Northwater Objects has implemented a custom report writing framework based on Totally Object's "Visibility" product. The framework is built with logical, data, output and print layers. "Logical" is the report specification; 'data" is the specification combined with the domain data; "output" is the data combined with the layout and "physical" is the collection of visibility print command objects. We have also written a user interface for report configuration and diagnostics.

Having the entire report writing mechanism in Smalltalk has proven to be a huge benefit. Our previous experiences with Access and Crystal Reports, while functional, were much more labour intensive and error prone.

The application is written in VisualAge Smalltalk with WindowBuilder and GemStone/S.

Bio: Bob Nemec, Vice-president of Northwater Objects, is responsible for the framework development of an in-house financial application, written in VisualAge Smalltalk and GemStone/S

See you in Seattle!
