This is a sad item, so if you don't like sad items, skip this one.

This morning I woke up to the cries of a bird outside. I rushed out there and found a bird on the ground crying with some cats circling it.

Ignoring our water restrictions, I turned on the hose and shooed the cats away. The bird stopped crying. It was a little wattle bird.

I thought it had a broken wing. It didn't resist me putting it in my own cat cage with a blanket - even though they are known to have very sharp claws. I called the Wildlife center and they said "Thanks, you've done our job, you've caught it, call the RSPCA".

I called the RSPCA and they said "We'll get a carer in your area to call you". Not too much longer later I got a call from a lady who was also in the same suburb as me and she asked me to drive the bird over.

When I got there, she inspected the bird and had bad news for me.. the bird had not broken its wing, it had broken its leg. Bird legs are hollow - they do not heal. The bird will be put down today :/

At least it's better then being devoured by cats.
