Have a look here - Gartner calls Smalltalk a Mature language, which they take to mean:
Language or tool is in general use. Community is active and includes some third parties. Use in existing deployments may continue to expand. User base may be growing or declining, but relatively stable.
In a conversation with one of their people earlier this week, there was a recognition that dynamic languages are growing in general, and that there's more interest in Smalltalk now than there has been in the recent past - which probably has a lot to do with Seaside.
Looks like even the conservative shops who studiously follow the analysts need to rethink their perceptions :)
