Feed Description: Smalltalk and my misinterpretations of life
It's hard for me to write about something like this, mostly because I'm very inexperienced in it. But I've been chatting with a girl in Indonesia for over a month now. Let me just set a bit of a scene for you.
I was getting really busy with my new company with my work's work so I knew I wasn't getting out enough. And when I did get out, it was to do things that I really enjoyed, such as watching a movie with mates or having a BBQ with mates, or going to the pub to watch the footy with mates. Hardly the right venues to meet women.
So I hooked myself up on findsomeone.com.au - I don't know how I got there, but I did. It was free and it's run by New Zealanders. NZers always get the good loving from sheep, so I thought may be it would work well here and I'd find a girl.
For those of you who don't know me, I have incredible luck. Not too long in to my stay on findsomeone.com.au an Indonesia girl began to talk to me and I to her. (Apparently these are key ingredients). For those of you not familiar with the region, Indonesia and Australia, in general, don't get along.
Putting country disputes aside, I really like this girl and I hope to meet her one day. I am curious as to whether I have the guts to travel to her country one day or not - she is intending to travel to here.
Okay, getting a little bit off course. She's coming to Austraila because she is sick of arranged marriages in her country. Her best friend is entering in to an arranged marriage and she is the maid of honour. She has to comfort her friend almost daily - for her friend does not like the man.
Her friend will not say not her parents either, even though her parents have said if she does not want to she does not have to. This is a cultural thing.. but some how I've managed to find a girl from there who refuses to do this.
Arranged marriages.. it's all about choice isn't it? Having the choice of who you want to marry. I believe almost anyone is a good partner, so long as you like them, are friends with them and you get along. But she doesn't like him... and from all my Indonesian friend tells me, men in Indonesia think very little of women.
These are cultural lines that may never meet and to cross them causes international tensions between countries that are already tightly wound... oh well.
