I missed today's podcast - so here's why. When you get a cold, one of the defence mechanisms of your body is to increase your metabolism. It releases a bunch of sugars in to your body for you to use as energy.
There-in lies the problem. To make use of this sugar you need insulin - which I don't have. So when a Type 1 Diabetic gets sick, they need to give themselves more insulin. How much? Who knows, that all depends on how sick you are and how your body decides to cope with things. It's hit and miss.
When I get hyper, I find I cannot get to bed early and I wake up late. I also have very funky dreams in the morning. Worse still - even if I set an alarm, said alarm becomes integrated in to the funky dreams. And by funky I mean bad in a very bad weird way. Not quite nightmares - you get those when you go Hypo in your sleep.
So right now I have a cold, a very mild one, but it's playing havok with my blood sugars. A real bummer too - since I was just starting to get some real control. Now I'll have to start my measurements all over again once this cold has finally passed.
So I missed the podcast this morning by an hour.. hmph. Oh well, next time!
