I've been playing with a Cairo interface from VisualWorks. Holger Kleinsorgen has done some stuff with this well (load Cairo from the Open Repository). I've placed my CairoGraphicsX in the Open Repository; my focus is X right now. I'm also aware that Boris Popov from Deep Cove Labs has done some form of an interface as well, used under Windows to make pretty charts.

I've been trying to reproduce some of the samplets . After some struggles getting going related to VW floating point trickery, things have gone pretty quick. Here's some samples:

See how pretty those lines are? And transformed antialiased text too. Generating alpha blend savvy drawings from VW is now a possibility.
