This new SciFi novel by Dave Grossman and Leo Frankowski is a hoot.

On one level they postulate a 2-D universe in which 3-D wooden ships can sail (yes, SAIL!) from planet to planet in the amount of time that 19th century ships could sail from Europe to America. I'm not going to try to explain this; let's just say they define a physics where it works. Still it is bizarre.

On another level, they describe a maritime military tradition of warriors facing an enemy with courage, honor and a strong sense of duty. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's primary job is training marines "about the psychology and physiology" of combat. He has an interesting website - www.killology.com - whose ideas he brings to the story. This meshes well with Leo Frankowski's ability to tell a good story.
