Spotted in Wayne Beaton's weblog
It seems that Ward Cunningham has joined the Eclipse Foundation. That means that there are 4 former Smalltalkers (if my count is correct) in the Eclipse Foundation - Mike Milinkovich, Wayne Beaton, Bjorn Freeman-Benson and now Ward Cunningham.
Wayne is a good friend of mine from the Object People days. Wayne has an interesting comment about Smalltalk in an interview on Eclipse and Java about Smalltalk:
Most die-hard Smalltalkers hated Java when it came out and many still do (a few of my friends still work with Smalltalk). I've warmed up to it over the years, but still tend think of Java as a decent tool rather than something that I'm excessively passionate about. I can't think of a single time that I've coded Java without thinking at least once to myself "this would be so much easier in Smalltalk".
Interestingly, Wayne's position is an "Eclipse Evangelist". Maybe the Smalltalk world could use a "Smalltalk Evangelist".
