Steve Rubel calls this "vigilante marketing" (that seems like a phrase only a PR guy would come up with :) )

I'd say it's something else - it goes back to something I said a week or two ago: Define your message, or have it defined for you. The guys at Kryptonite learned that lesson the hard way.
