Don Park waves some reality at the Atom crowd, who are extremely proud of their (mostly pointless) efforts. I rather suspect that they won't like his comments, but the truth hurts. I'll add a double agreement on one point that Don makes - the Atom astronauts make this claim:
The RSS 2.0 specification is copyrighted by Harvard University and is frozen. No significant changes can be made and it is intended that future work be done under a different name; Atom is one example of such work. - RSS 2.0 and Atom Compared
Yep, no further work on RSS, none. iTunes? Move along, nothing to see there, move along. Now comes the fun part - will the Atom crowd go further into the wilderness and create their own set of modules, or will they adopt the existing ones that RSS uses widely?
